A Course of Consciousness Songtext
I fell asleep last night still wondering if I'd escape this place in time.
While we were struggling to keep our heads about us, we were struggling to find a reason why.
If I waste another second in this body I'll be forever trapped inside my mind.
Because we have every reason not to keep our heads above the water:
As we drown, we sink to stay alive.

I never thought it would be easy, but the distance there gets farther every night.
If the dark side of this freedom is responsibility, then I can't be held responsible for dying.
I hope we'll see the sun set soon, and I hope we'll sleep the whole night through.
I hope you're never there to see me fall for things that I can't prove.

Will this all be over when we wake up?
Because I'm not ready to face the truth.
Bring us back to life now as we lie down.
I can't become what I've been through.
As long as I've accepted where I've been.

I fell asleep last night still wondering if I would learn to live with what I'd left behind.
While we were struggling to come to terms with reason, we saw our fate unfold before our eyes.
I know it hurts to lie awake, and I know we can't wait to be saved.
I know I'm losing touch, I've seen too much to ever be the same.

Now it's inside our hearts, and it's inside our minds.
It's inside the peace we cannot find.
It's inside ourselves.
We've began to see that we've been distanced by design.

Now we're beside our flaws, and we're beside our lies.
We're beside the strength we've lost to fight.
Yes, we're beside ourselves.
We've began to see that only the conscious close their eyes.

Now we're against our will, and we're against our faith.
We're against the walls we've set in place.
We're against ourselves.
We've began to see that we won't recover if we wake.
