Human After All Songtext
I should have known that this was artificial
I should have known it all went by so fast
I should have known you didn't really mean it
I should have known you that this would never last
Sometimes I don't believe in God or
Love or sex much anymore
But I believe it every time I see you
And I don't know what scares me most
How you come to me like a frightened ghost
Or how you disappear just as I reach out to touch you
The leaves are blowing in the gutter and the rain is starting to fall
I should've known that you'd turn out to be human after all

I walked down every street in Union City
I stared up at your window from below
I went inside and stayed a couple hours
Til you said "it's time for you to go."
My back is hurting and my hands
Look like late November and
I can't get my feet back on the ground
I know I shouldn't feel like this
This isn't love, it was barely a kiss
But I really hate it when you're not around
The leaves are blowing around the gutter and the snow is staring to fall
I should've known that you'd turn out to be human after all

So I stand here in my dirty blue jeans
Across the street from a dirty video store
While you're there all alone in your apartment
Probably still sprawled out on the floor
The chuckles of the saxophones
The flashing signs and striptease shows
The steam that rises up from underground
The buzzing of the traffic lights
The rattle of the cabs tonight
Sound like someone laughing to me now
The leaves are blowing through the gutters and the night is starting to fall
I should've known, but you know I'm only human after all
