If I Fight Songtext

It all seemed so fine.
Everyone was there.
Then I saw my best friend.
With blood in his hair.

My cheeks were wet.
And I clenched up my fists.
I heard another bang.
And something got hit.

All around me, buildings were falling.
Soldiers were dying, and bombs were flying.
A bloody mess, take my last breath.
I'll survive it, if I fight it.

I got a new medal.
To send to a girl.
It says that her man.
Was suddenly killed.
I barely knew him.
Peter Gray, I think.
This isn't OK.
I want this to end.

I want to go home.
I love my wife.
And if I'm dead.
It would end her life.

I've got a kid.
She's only so young.
Trust me, it's cute.
When she pokes out her tongue.

But all around me, buildings were falling.

A few more years.
And I will be fine.
I'll kill many men.
Just to survive.

This morning I woke.

But, now I'm glad.
