What Do You Get For The Man Who Has Nothing? Songtext
I don't have a purebred Terrier, I don't have a swimming pool
My air is not conditioned when it's hot or heated when it's cool
I don't have a riding lawnmower or a lawn to ride it on
I don't have a will and testament for when I'm gone

And so on my birthday, my friends say to me
"(What do you get) for the man who has nothing?
(To get some) To get something you must have something first of all.
(Where do you start) when you want to build a collection of possessions
For the man who has nothing at all?"

I've gazed into the lidless eyes of department stores at night
I saw the painted asphalt labyrinths of yellow, black, and white
I passed the palace gates of the new kings gone hungry in their food courts
Yes I've stood tall in shopping malls but I always come up short

And so on my birthday, my friends say to me
"(What do you get) for the man who has nothing?
(To get some) To get something you must have something first of all.
(Where do you start) when you want to build a collection of possessions
For the man who has nothing at all?"

"(What do you get) for the man who has nothing?
(To get some) To get something you must have something first of all.
(Where do you start) when you want to build a collection of possessions
For the man who has nothing at all?"
