I. Until She Grew The Wings

She was a vision in green
a vision in resplendent fishnets holding her in place
in place the sky stretches away from her
its long blue railroad a winding snake and
she thought of dying, she thought of flying
she thought her arms would break
until she grew the wings
until she grew the wings
she likes books of blank paper
and paper that really takes the ink
and brutal canyon sun with rivers


II The Too-Heavy Crow

And she dreamed an urban landscape of barren grays and stone
an empty city, empty windows, in the dream she was alone
in front of a mailbox, molded blue and solid, she stood frozen
feeling the crow flap about her head
the crow flap about her head
a filthy, too-heavy crow that nested on her scalp
strong claws tangled in her hair, dirty mouth cawing

she beat it away, time and again, to have it return, inexplicably heavy
to rest upon her head


III The Brutal Canyon

She flies over brutal canyon air
shimmering green as fishnets
elegant, rapid, austere

her eyes water in the wind that smells like sand
the river far below is an impossible blue
like the sea, her toes point outward, always outward
the brutal canyon is very near

she is streams of light and air
she's a streak in the sky
her feet will never touch ground again
only air and brutal canyon sky
