Sailed Off To Sea Songtext
Sounds of love
are what I've been listening for.
But I don't leave home,
no I never even open my door.
I've had my ear pressed up against the keyhole now
and now it's full of dusty sound.

Hair and skin
are what I've been sifting through.
If I tried you on,
I wonder if I'd fall for you.
But the kind of love
that you can carve into a tree
always carves its hole in me.

I've gone searching in every cave
for fire.
I keep thinking I see a spark in the dark.

But my guess is that
it's just the sparkles in my own eyes
telling me that
the more I look the farther I get.
Every time I get a little closer I find out
Oh that I'm right where I started.

I've tried to love.
Lord knows I've played that game.
But I always end up making deals in the lion's mane.
He says he's selling love,
he says he sells it by the gram.
So I buy the most I can.

I've gone sailing on every sea -
full of numbers, on ships, in books
past the curve of the earth.

But my guess is that
it sailed away with little toy tugboats.
Telling me that
the more I look the farther I get.
Every time I get a little closer I find out
that I'm right where I started.

Take time in your bitter hands
and wipe off the morning light.
Try not to fall asleep,
and let the stars fill up your eyes.
Oh, your eyes.
Oh, your eyes.

But my guess is that
it's just the sparkles in my own eyes
telling me that
the more I look the farther I get.
Every time I get a little closer I find out
that I'm right where I started.

Oh, that I'm right where I started.
