Never Date A Writer Songtext
There's a version of you in somebody's head
Sayin' mean things that you never said
Cool and unusual dummy by design
Not filled up with somebody else's lines

Nothing you do, nothing you say
Could ever make them view you in another way
They get the worst, most toxic part of you
And that's the part they talk to
Never date a writer, never be a muse
Everything is copied, every trauma gets reused
They'll control the narrativе, they'll feel misunderstood
Nevеr date a writer, especially if they're good

Everybody wants to own the goodbye
Everybody wants to be right
So if you don't look like the good guy, put the story down in black and white
And you write and you write 'till you're right

Blood on the page and the ink's still wet
And they don't forgive and they don't forget
They only remember the worst of you
The facts are wrong, but it still feels true

Never date a writer, they're not trying to be mean
But you'll end up an index card on the corkboard of their dream
Sure, when you're together, things will feel just fine
But you were not together, you were researched the whole time
Everybody wants to own the goodbye
Everybody wants to be right
So if you don't look like the good guy, put the story down in black and white
And you write and you write 'till you're right

It's your right to work through your life with your art
But I've heard every word tear us further apart
And the more we put it down in lines
The more the facts get blurred
We don't want love, we want the last word
So you read the book or you see the play
And you see yourself in the words they say
They stole your breath and they made their art
And they wrote their truth and they broke your heart

So never date a writer, and I'm a writer too
I'll wring you out for feelings, 'cuz that's just what I do
Sharin' all my troubles for followers and cash
The pain ends up in print and the truth goes in the trash

Everybody wants to own the goodbye
Everybody wants to be right
So if you don't look like the good guy, put the story down in black and white
You write and you write, and you write and you write, and you write and you write 'till you're right
