Metamorphosis Songtext
I left my ego outside by the barber's pole

And now I am in a brick lounge, I pretend to like the music

I am sitting next to business men, mason rings and armchairs

Fluorescents leaving shadows, I sink into mine

A girl of skin and bone whose eyes shone like Christmas

Her pitiful thin body sweats next to mine

She put something in my hand, and appetite for dreaming

And she said something; it came out in the nothing

Tonight we will die, tonight we will die

Tonight we will die, tonight we will die

She said...

Make believe, the falling the leaves, I try to please
Cliffs to climb, your eyes divine by kerosene light

Put your thumb on my mind, lay on the lawn, say nothing 'til dawn

A thousand regrets, a thousand cigarettes, I've forgot nothing yet

Telephone rang, I cut off my ears, your boyfriend for years

Sniffin', coughin', sneezin', sighin', breathin', dying

You left behind the kids, I can hear your heart beating through your ribs

There are not enough apple trees or maple leaves to help us breath

A melody emerges, a crescendo on a ladder

Then it falls like a fountain, sweating in the cool

You took something; I don't recognise your eyes

Something mutes the disco, greasy San Francisco

Can I sleep on your pillow tonight?

I'm still having dreams about things, like:

Tom used to like you, and so did his brother

They were on the boat that time...

Now I am rolling over, I can't shake the fever

I think somebody's listening, scratching at my window

Something on my skin, something wrong within

What did they give me? Will you keep an eye on me tonight?

Make believe, the falling the leaves, I try to please

Cliffs to climb, your eyes divine by kerosene light

Put your thumb on my mind, lay on the lawn, say nothing 'til dawn

A thousand regrets, a thousand cigarettes, I've forgot nothing yet

Telephone rang, I cut off my ears, your boyfriend for years

Sniffin', coughin', sneezin', sighin', breathin', dying

You left behind the kids, I can hear your heart beating through your ribs

There are not enough apple trees or maple leaves to help us breath
