Last Promenade Songtext
Dangle by a single wire, one more time around
Devil dances with Desire, promenade me down
Shame my name, I drank and sang
I kicked my heels up high
In the morning I'd awake
Where I had laid my head at night

Dangle by a single wire, streets are full in town
Come the ladies and the liars, promenade me down
Now there has always been a railroad running underneath
I have heard it in these fields
And I have seen it in my dreams

Dangle by a single wire, all is quiet now
So dark the night and cold the hour, promenade me down
Meet me in the field
A trail of blood upon the leaves
There are two moons out tonight
And all the stars are thick as thieves
Now one minute I was sleeping
And the next I was awake
And I was uninvited
But a guest at midnight made

Dangle by a single wire, ears to hear the sound
Serenade a house on fire, promenade me down
Oh the rabbits in their best furs
And the foxes in long tails
A table set for feasting to a hounds' bloodthirsty wale
And when they came a-running
Everything we'd left behind
Was shattered plates and ashes
And bones for dogs to find
And the train whistle screaming
And the ground, she did quake
And we never had no ticket on the last Promenade
