you know your part for anyone.
as costumes disguise
the ignorant act that raised you up
never seemed so wise.
but when i mention the name of Christ
what causes you to change?
you hide behind the lights on the stage
and repeat your lines
as the curtain rises skyward
we all do the same.
acting for the empty theater.
dance and say your name.
the comic cries, the hero dies.
it seems evil prevails again.
take your bow and fade.
others wave goodbye.
why do they smile towards the sky?
to get your name off this playbill
a death occured in production.
take a bus to the edge of this city.
you're free to fly.
