Breath Underwater Songtext
Nineteen Eighty-Seven, we visited the ocean
Timidly we played in the water
When no one else was watching
We waded past the breakers
Felt a current pulling us under
The atmosphere receding, the surface slowly rising
Every trace of daylight extinguished
Hope is but an anchor and anchors drag us under
Thankfully we breathe underwater
And the luxury ship was a passing giant
Every castaway bled and dying behind it
Leaving miles of bodies in its wake
And they offered to help us out of the water
Heard the glasses clink, heard the laughs and chatter
And retreated to safety beneath those waves forever

For there is beauty here under dark and cold
There are species here who are wise and old
There's a language here in which tales are told
And no treasure's fine enough to make me leave it

I've seen the maps of green and brown
All the blue appears as nothing between the islands
Hope is but an anchor and anchors drag us under
Thankfully we breathe underwater

And the luxury ship is a passing giant
Every castaway bled and dying behind it
Leaving miles of bodies in its wake
Forget them...
