Tour of Bridges Songtext
[BEGIN CHILD'S POEM]
life is a song that begins with the word "behold"
behold the sun
behold the light
behold the sky, the sea, the earth, that, the people, that dog
behold the wind, the breath of strangers, brought from a great distance to become the breath of us
we shape that breath into words and blow it back through song,
and the song of the word-shaped, the word-shaped wind pours into other ears
listen, this is what it says, "behold, I am here, behold, behold, behold, behold"
[END CHILD'S POEM]

our first river crossed, what's known behind is lost
ahead a wet landscape more bridges
there's one the sun glazes, find those that visit it
first kisses, granted wishes, new hope
leave the city, watch your step, more cautious minutes slip
plunge into a tour of seas
my sweetheart scaled the span, said I'm above the hopeful land
from here we see only one love, but countless lovers,
countless lovers, so many other lovers, all feast on each other

from here a heathen heart, and when the dirt and was dug
the angels had swept the dust up
for every and sheep sent tricks, a hundred hungrier fish
stoned this bridge to sink
it cost an arm parade, and when the trumpets played
did you feel free or fatal?
this one's a pew up late, nothing can make you stay
together and regift his bruise
that can't leave them all
threw them all back, gave it all back
thrust in your head, all back, smack them all back,
smack smack smack, big purple kisses

each bridge upon my way, the strange and by the same
but fear not we know god he loves us
my car with engineers, squandered for a million years
to bridges when they should have raised walls
i say "there's a brash mistake", the boss said, "keep it fake,
keep talking the languages of bridges"

this bridge might bring you back, and when the phantoms attack
the memories of haunt will spare it
but the others can burn, the others can burn
they'll not deserve, the others can burn
they'll burn, the others will burn
we'll burn all the others, the others can burn
