The Beggar On The Corner Songtext
We switch from Earth to Heaven when our batteries wind down,
And replace our shoulders with wings,
And they give us a halo where we once wore a crown,
And shroud us in glory and all that it brings.

They're switching from statues to operated dolls,
And waxworks are worshipped like ancient icons,
A heritage crushed, a generation falls,
This savage is clueless, what's going on?
And there's no love there,
And there's no thought there,
And no one here cares,
That there's no heart there.

The beggaer on the corner's on a mission to earn,
He's twitching with hunger and fighting the cold,
But he's leaving town and he's never gonna return,
And cursing at nature for making him old.

But there's no one there,
And there's no dreams there,
And no one here dares,
To hold a heart there.

Where has the social conscience gone from this world?
Is avarice the vulture
Devouring our culture?

We switch from hell to this world wearing nothing but a caul,
Naked and selfless and nothing at all,
The vulture dictates if we rise or fall,
Swinging the megaphone and this baby's too small.

And there's no love there,
And there's no thought there,
And no one here cares,
That there's no heart there.

Where has the social conscience gone from this world?
Is avarice the vulture
Devouring our culture?

Our children's children can't say we never tried,
The beggar mutters something and closes his eyes,
And they're making fucking movies starring people who have died,
And heaven was calling, he didn't realise.

And there's no one there,
And there's no dreams there,
And no one here dares,
To hold a heart there.

Where has the social conscience gone from this world?
Is avarice the vulture
Devouring our culture?
