A tragic side-effect of all forms of oppression is that the victim slowly internalises their tormentor's low opinion of them. It is, perhaps, for this reason that the English have traditionally presaged their ritual sporting defeats with a communal mumbling of a non-descript dirge in which they plead to a clearly indifferent god to prolong the existence of an old woman who lives in a castle.
An especially tantalising scrap of the North Sea Scrolls consists of notes towards a bold new anthem for, perhaps, a bold new England. We have, with all due solemnity, accepted the role of Sir Hubert Parry to the William Blake who composed these snippets, and we hope that this will conclude our presentation in the spirit of patriotic rectitude which we believe appropriate.
