Missing You This Mornin' Songtext
When I came to at
four this mornin'
with a barroom beauty
in New Orleans
Well, all my thoughts were
back in Amarillo

It ain't the moonlight
on her pasties
and I'm quite sure
it ain't the fishnet stockings
on the hardwood floor
but perhaps the smudge of makeup
on my pillow
Yeah well, all I know
is as each moment passes
with the tip tap tappin'
of her false eyelashes
I found myself just
a-missin' you this mornin'

Well for a while
I was whistlin' Dixie
all liquored up
on cheap scotch whiskey
I swear I hardly
thought about you Sally
but I was leanin' on a lamppost
like I couldn't be beat
and got my ass kicked twice
on Bourbon Street
and I wound up
near a church on Pirate's Alley
and no it ain't so bad
as you might expect
but I don't think
I'll be playin' anymore clarinet
for a while
and maybe that's why I'm
missin'you this mornin'

Yeah, I bent to pray
in the alleyway
ya know, I never sunk so low
well I was all outta whiskey
and you wasn't there to kiss me
I went lookin' for lovin'
at a strip tease show
well she seemed alright
late last night
but this mornin'
she just don't seem
nearly half as pretty
as when she danced
her little diddy
now it only leaves me lonely
down in New Orleans
and I laid with her
for an hour or two
but all the while I was wishin'
that a-she was you
and perhaps that's why I'm
missin' you this mornin'

Well I felt so lonely
I just up and left
she took my last 20 dollars
my last cigarette
but Sally
I ain't singin' any sad tunes
All the things is lookin' up
I just thought I'd let you know
I got me some part-time work
at Joe's Texaco
and Joe said
he'd let me sleep in the bathroom
Yeah, and I'm not makin'
nowheres near minimum wage
but I got runnin' water
and a place to stay
but still I found myself
a-missin' you this mornin'
yeah, but still I found myself
a-missin' you this mornin'
