Listener Songtext
So tell me listener
while you're listening
why you listening to what you're listening to?
what you're listening to
and though it's hard to see through the fog
they've laid around your eyes
let me help spell it out for you
spell it out for you
we're all
programmed
while you're listening
programmed
programmed
what you listening to?
we're all
programmed
while you're listening
programmed
what you listening to?
programmed
spell it out for you

This music's mine
but I can see the contradictions
I know that there's a struggle within
a constant whisper
a schizophrenic polemic
but academics
don't mean nada
to these listeners now
it's unpreventable
so
these problem stem from the cycle on repeat
from the record companies who create consumer needs
this s**t is over some heads like oak trees
but when I say this
I get a funny little look like “oh please”
if you buy a certain type of record
they're gonna make
if you fool yourself it's music
they're gonna go and play it
if you but it even more
you're gonna make that artist rich
the more justified they come in putting out that same s**t
I love this music
I've given up my life
so I can make something
I feel will stand up in the light
these shadows fall with no regard for the subject
and bad music is just that
despite the context
you can put a record out
and call it dope
but the smoke clears soon enough
those cracks gonna show
you can call yourself a rapper coz you make up a rhyme
but so do little baby kiddies
at nursery school time
I name no names
it's not the way I'm raised
I would never say that Drake's a waste of fucking space
I would never say that Gucci can suck my figurative c**chy
that kind of talk
would just never really suit me

You these faces
with these vacuous expressions
and these cameras
that follow them all like bad reflections
we see the famous
idolised like some Kardashian
like celebrity that supersedes the need for having talent
I watch these women with dreams of being naked
who only try to f**k on these tapes to try to make it
I've seen more intellect
wash up on the beach
and we can talk about this s**t all day long
but talk is cheap
so
to the point
keep it short
and keep it sweet
I'm really f**cking bored of these people on my screens
it's sad to see mediocrity celebrated
and the absence of substance
keeps it perpetuated
I name no names
it's not the way that I'm raised
I would never say that Nick Minaj should go away
I would never that Jersey Shore
can suck a d**k
that would be unbecoming of a man like this
I can
I can only hope it isn't too late
to educate our own children
about the tracks they play
to teach ‘em how to separate soul from mathematics
and formulaic songs
aimed to hook like crack addicts
you think it's trivial
but what you don't see
is the erosion of your senses
like sand from stone beach
mass stupidity like fluoride in the water
if it's going in your ears
you better keep s**t in order

I don't attack coz I like the way that it feels
I'm a peaceful kinda guy
with an eye for keeping real
I like authentic
and those people with the soul
keep the actors in the movies
and the music for the flow
forget a rap
I don't listen that no more
I'm not trying to be dramatic
or dig up another corpse
hip hop ain't dead
it's just residing in my ablamgata
medulla on another planet like
I'm Amidala
so tell me listener
while you're listening
take a little second away from your conditioning
ask yourself why the Kesha song is whack
or if they needed any talent
for the making of the track
people think you're sheep
and that you'll bleat upon request
but I can see that the power you have
to lead that's in your chest
in the muscle that pumps you liquid life
the kick drum of the soul to which I write
so stand and fight against this mass assimilation
the opium of organised noise
for your containment
there's a war going on in your head
so grab a blade
and don't be shy to cut a fucking head off
that's in your way
I come to you as a man with no agenda
it brings me sadness to see us all surrender
we've set our expectations so low
that any talentless sell-out
can have their own show
