Kaley's Mountain Songtext
I know the trail up Kaley's Mountain
But I don't go up that way anymore
Some things you learn just to leave where they fall
And you bring them back no more

Some people whisper that I've lost my laughter
But they don't need to be so careful when they talk
I'm well aware of what I have not - and it's her laugh I have lost

It's been one cloudy day following after another
On the saddest days I think it's all about me
Ever since you left
I walk around here with my head down
And nobody thinks I'm half as funny
Oh, my friends say I'm not half as funny

Been living here since we both were babies
I never thought you'd go on without me
It's like an almighty maple fell
And you left this barren space, this unclaimed sacred space

I hear the robins on Kaley's Mountain
And though it's springtime it's still not the same
A sad wind blows the melody around
And the notes come out all wrong
Oh, I miss our lost love song

It's been one cloudy day following after another
On the saddest days I think it's all about me
Ever since you left
I walk around here with my head down
And nobody thinks I'm half as funny
Oh, my friends say I'm not half as funny

I know the trail up Kaley's Mountain
And I could show you every tree and every bough
But then I'd have to let go of her now
And I don't think I know how
Oh, I don't think I want to know how
Oh, I can't let go just now

It's been one cloudy day following after another
On the saddest days I think it's all about me
Ever since you left
I walk around here with my head down
And nobody thinks I'm half as funny
Oh, my friends say I'm not half as funny
Oh, you always thought I was so funny
