Genuinely Make-Believe Songtext
Well I've done a lot of searching,
On the outside and within,
Gentle muse to which I allude,
And I never found anything.
Saw the sun and moon in heaven,
Seen a needle wink it's eye,
A widow watch her house burn down,
Hear her newborn baby cry.
I've took a thousand daggers,
Felt the cracking of the whip,
I've flown above the tallest trees,
Swam beneath a sinking ship.
But I'm scared to leap the chasm,
And wear my heart upon my sleeve.
And is this feeling really real,
Or is it genuinely make-believe?

Well, I've tasted the sweetest poison,
From the holiest of grails,
I've spoken of some serious truth,
I've told a lot of tales.
I've never been a hero,
Not deserving any thanks,
Never saved a damsel in distress,
Distracted enemy tanks.
I've walked bare-foot for months,
Across the hottest desert sands,
I laid the sweet young virgin down,
Wiped her tears with my hands.
But I'm scared to leap the chasm,
And wear my heart upon my sleeve.
And is this feeling really real,
Or is it genuinely make-believe?

Now, New York City's calling,
I will take you there, you know,
I'd cross the earth, the heavens too,
To be wherever you go.
And we made such a big promise,
I'll keep it until I die,
And what we said that fateful night,
Could be the perfect alibi.
Ever made a wish just knowing,
That such a wish can't come true?
That's the feeling I was getting,
When I wished for someone like you.
Now I've gone and leapt the chasm,
Put my heart upon my sleeve,
Now I know this feeling is really real,
This isn't make-believe.
