Gasolight Songtext
she felt faster on the water
safe in her carriage of rubber
inside her chariot of chrome
her horse powered home
her floating throne
she's a tailored canvas to the sky's
backdrop of hand held lights
that's guided her way thus far
unhitching her dream from her car
taking off on a rippling
oval of wet stars

the salty gasoline in her hair
she gets the smell for which she waits all year

these days it takes up all her time
she gets wrinkles from the light
fighting for space under her eyes
alert her to danger
twitch when there's strangers
and more specifically they make her feel
safer

this new horizon line
playing havoc with her eyes
playing havoc with her time
when she could be on the seas
with the throttle at her feet
sunglasses on her mind
sunshine on her knees

going down again
going down again
the horizon is closing out
reflecting just enough to make us out
as we throw ourselves across the wake
a small fraction of time repeated every day

it must be heartbreaking
to curl yourself around the sails
and all you can see for miles
is a sea of broken fingernails
you want to commandeer a crew
you want X to mark the spot
of something new for a change
if we were smart we would've stayed the same
we would have got these drownings framed

she won't take it anymore
rips the plug from the wall
sends the console crashing to the floor
takes the lift to the street
slaps her flippers on the wet concrete
and now there's nothing in between
what she's learnt and why she's here
except for a billion liquid litres
and the silhouette of the pier
