how do I explain to my children
why we kill each other
and have forever
why we choose to draw blood
and feast on the dead
lie to ourselves
and celebrate our greatest failures
always fail to see the pattern
in a history of endless human suffering
why should we think this will ever change
when there has never been another way
that tomorrow won't see the masses enslaved
and the planet scarred by the wars being waged

no one cares because its commonplace
