We went to the four-legged zooTo visit our four-footed friendsLions and tigers, cats and dogsA goat and a cow and a couple o' hogsA rhinoceros, and of course a hippopotamusAnd, oh yes, a horse!There were elk and bison, a gnu or twoGiraffes and elephants, quite a fewA llama, alpaca, vicuna tooZebras, ibexes, and one big kuduIt was swell, I liked the gazelleNow Miss Simpson said -She teaches school, you know -Yeah, she took us thereWell, Miss Simpson said If we counted every head on these quadrupedsThen multiplied that number by fourWe'd know how many feet went through the doorIf we turned them all looseOh no, don't do that!It's really a groovy zooBut, anyway, what Miss Simpson saidIt was a good chance to work on our fours in our headOne, two, three, four!SongtexteI'll take a lion . . . (one times four)He's got four legs and maybe a roarGive me two camels . . . that's two times fourEight legs walking across the desert floorA tiger and a lamb and a fat kuduWould be three times four (equals twelve legs too)But we might have to subtractWhen that tiger was through! (Rowr!)Four four-footed friends, no matter whoWould have 16 legs, and it's always trueThat four times four equals 16And five times four is 20Now a coach and six, if you were CinderellaWould have you home by midnightIf those 24 legs ran fast as lightningSix times four equals 24 and seven times four equals 28Anyone knows that, who cares about sevenAnd eight antelope have 32 legs because eight times four is 32Here come a small herd of buffaloThey say they're getting extinct, you knowI can count nine - that's 36 legsNine times four equals 36Here comes a baby buffaloThat's good!
