A Hunting Accident Songtext
I have been blessed with three strapping young boys with hair just like their fathers,
and freckles just like me,
a tall Irish husband, broad shouldered and a saint,
with forearms that built for me a cottage by the sea.
At night we'd lay our boys down and then we'd sit and drink
our tea in bed and listen to the waves crashing with foam.
One night he'd gone out hunting, so I put our boys to bed.
I drank my tea, no company, and went to bed alone.
I'd barely closed my eyes when the rain began to howl
the dogs all started barking and my boys, I heard them scream.
So I shot up in terror, went out into the hallway,
their doors were locked, I begged myself to wake up from this dream.
I turned around and witnesses a figure on my ceiling,
an old hag in a cloud of black four feet above my bed.
I sank and started sobbing, for as she wailed I knew
that they'd return my husband with a bullet in his head.
